Not many changes were expected in the near future, but then Tito Pontecorvo appeared unexpectedly. With a strong will, and great energy, he established the Tito Pontecorvo Stables during the era of "depression" in Russia, and began breeding Akhal Teke horses, which were then dismissed by Soviet farming authorities as "non-productive".

The beginning of the saga took place in Ratmino, a small but cozy stables. With the growth of the business, Tito Pontecorvo needed more space, enough to keep several hundred horses. So a new, large, Horse Complex has appeared bordering a rather small Russian village outside the town of Dubna, and some 100 kilometers from Moscow on the banks of the Volga River.

This new stables has attracted many people who are interested in Akhal Tele horses, and led to the organization of the growing number of breeders, riders and owners into the International
Association of Akhal Teke Breeders (MAAK) which was born in the conference rooms of Tito's new horse complex, which contains 250 stalls, a hotel, indoor manage, conference rooms, staff quarters, a mill, a power plant and everything needed for a large horse operation, as well as extensive pastures along the river. \n\n \nTito decided to open a new Akhal Teke stud farm in the United States in 1997 while maintaining his operation in Russia. \nIn Russia he has continued with the Fakir-Pelvan line through the stallions Tagir and Helvar, as well as the Kaplan line through the stallions Amanat, from Kerzi, and Alabahar. \n \nFoals of these stallions are consistent winners in differents divisions in the annual Akhal Teke World Championships in Moscow.\n\n \nIn the United States, the following work has been done: \n \nKarlavach line – through Kogan (Koshili-Girel). Kogan has shown very good results in jumping during a competitive career in California under a top American rider, and is an extremely handsome black stallion.\n\n",1]
);
//-->

Tito decided to open a new Akhal Teke stud farm in the United States in 1997 while maintaining his operation in Russia. He shows a very good trot and canter, which, no doubt, comes from his ancestor Absent, who won a gold medal at the Rome Olympics in Dressage.*
\n \nKaplan Line – Through Pan (Amanat – Pergazel). \n \nThe production of the Pontecorvo Stud in the United States has been quite successful. Wendy is professional trainer with A circuit jumpers and has prepared the horses for Olympic riders. Wendy also has taught at Yale University and has pre vet degree. We are very proud that Wendy decided to start working with Akhal Teke breed. First lesson has proved that Moira and Dolomit are definitely sport horses and both have a very bright future.
We wish Wendy all the best. I have a feeling Dolomit has laready fallen in love with his beautiful and kind trainer. Moira was trotting alone like a happy camper after trying her old school tricks she realised Wendy is not a beginner and will and can easily handle little spikes from Moira the Turkmeni horse. Dolomit was a good student was just trying to stay with the program. He did very well. Good job, Wendy!

If anyone would like to have they horses trained in Tampa Bay area please give me a call (941) 730 6328 or e-mail dashacole@gmail.com. We may have one or two stalls in the barn available to do it. It`s rare opportunity to have such a top class trainer to work with Akhal Teke horses.

Of course, our Head Coach Kate Bonda has approved and welcomed Wendy to the Stud of heavenly Horses. Kate will be working with Wendy to bring Moira and Dolomit to the show world in the shortest time possible.

Kate and Wendy, Akhal Tekes will be famous! Kate Bonda, who has shown Morgan National Champions in New York is available to give lessons in dressage and western pleasure to kids and adults. We have lesson horses and would gladly teach you in a friendly atmopshpere of Akhal Teke Golden Sand Farm www.akhalteke.homestead.com.
Akhal Teke Golden Sand Farm

I used to feel him tracking my breath even he is 20 meters away from my house...I can feel it in my sleep that he has to know that I am OK. This so so strange...
Kate told me today that he does not have to call me because she knows when I am up, Dolomit...you don`t need a phone for telepatic communication around here. You can just think and horse will talk back to you.
When I was choosling him at Tito`s Dolomit used to come in my dreams and just look down on me. I could not sleep, he bothered me until I bought him, so much. I have a feeling if left and didn`t buy him he would find a way to get me back with his dreams...
It`s not me who choose Dolomit - it is Dolomit who picked me up.
True Akhal Teke only comes once in a life time...
Akhal Teke Golden Sand Farm

Kate showed me how to clip the face and ears. How to use make to bring up the darker colour of the face. Kate also had Tiki`s hair French braded. It was exciting it was fun. There is no Akhal Teke community. That`s what I understand people are trying to build here. Without respect and understanding from one member to another it will not be possible. We bought "our horses yesterday" but me may have more potential with the help of professional trainers to show our horses today. There is no Akhal Teke community that`s why breed suffers because many can not overcome their personal issues and start training the horses for the serious shows. And I thought experienced breeder should just be happy so we are the young generation is still interested in Akhal Teke horses and should support our passion for it because we are spending our hard earned money on buying, maintaining and trying to show Akhal Tekes. Noone yet gave me a trained horse and said, go head and take it to the show. I have to back my own horses that`s how far away I am from it. But I still backed Jessica`s Paikhas and I will back Tito`s horses because people have to see Akhal Tekes here in Florida. I am backing the horses because I have no choice and I will not appriciate someone comments that I own horses for two days...
12.
document.write(CommentBy)
comment posted by Jessica 10/16/2006 09:33:16 AM
gravatar('D41D8CD98F00B204E9800998ECF8427E');
I think it is better to discuss openly suggestions for improvement, as long as we have an open discussion going on everything can only get better. In order to find better solutions we will have to define the past and the present. Define the problem and work towards solutions. The wider range of personalities and experiences the better. There are seniors and juniors and rookies in this forum, I base it on number of years "in service" with this breed. I think it is good that also the rookies are listened to as it is interesting to see how a rookie experience coming into this breed in the 21st century. Dasha, no one will give you anything more than you ask for, there are trained Tekes for sale that can go directly into the show ring. When you bought Paikhas from us we suggested her as you wanted a young horse you could work with from scratch. As you mentioned that you were not that an experienced rider we selected for you a young mare with an easy going temperament that we had found exceptionally easy to work with, she was backed in Sweden as a two-year-old and lost I would say four months of training due to her exportation from Sweden and importation to the USA. It is great to know that you have decided to train and show your Tekes in Florida. You have chosen to buy a three- year- old that you by now has had in traning for 1.5 years. Training horses for the discipline you have chosen to show in, dressage, take many years and there are no short cuts. It's great to know that you work with a trainer and we have never denied you out support or help in any matters. The two rescues you saved from the stud farm in Texas will need a lot of time to recover from years of starvation and abuse. Moira was backed by me in your place (this I call support), she was lame and emancipated at that time as she had recently arrived, I backed her as I has promised to do to check if she had been under rider before which she obviously had. I then recommended you to give her all the time she needed to recover. The seven-year-old halter broken stallion has lost 5 to 4 years of training and I can guess it will be quite a challenge to get him trained to show in dressage. However, there are trained Tekes for most disciplines for sale so there is no need real for anyone to start of with green or rescued horses in this country. I do not agree with your "no one sold me" argumentation. What I do admire about you Dasha and think is almost unique is that you have decided to show and not to breed Tekes. Let me know when you will enter your first Teke in a show here in Florida and we will be there with the big supporter team.
13.
document.write(CommentBy)
comment posted by shael10/16/2006 09:47:52 AMHomepage: http://shael-teke.ru/
gravatar('EEB13FED96088E1083D4FF0CDF37626E');
14.
document.write(CommentBy)
comment posted by Dasha Cole10/16/2006 11:45:25 AMHomepage: http://www.akhalteke.homestead.com/
gravatar('EC96290343B2F6DF08324D109A559BDD');
Jessica Thank you for your comments. I have no complains as you know about Paikhas - I bought her unbroke. And I am very happy with her. She does have a thrown cicle but she will be bred this year as a recomendation of the vet. We will let you know shen she goes into her first show. Would love to have you! Please let me know who has any seriousely trained AT horses for sale at this moment? I am not talking just broke. For the breeding part we do have a breeding farm set up for the next season. We have Dolomit availabe for stud services as well as we are getting paperwork finalized for another MAAK approved stallion who has off spring on the ground. We will be offereing two stallions for the breeding season of 2007 here in Sarasota. Everyone welcome! We will breed to part breds as it seems so far most of the reservations arive from non-AT owners. All the recomendations for breeding will be done by Tito Pontecorvo for pure bred horses. If anyone has a desire to find out what they horse will look like to avoid breeding mistakes I understand from Tito`s wife Natasha this information will be avilable soon. As to Dolomit and Moira - they are both great horses demonstrating top class of breeding in Akhal Tekes. Dolomit is under the saddle at the trout, shows wonderfull temper. Moira is under the saddle at the trout too. Both horses are sound working horses and doing great. Pictures of Dolomit and Moira will be on my blog soon under the saddle. It was a drought in Texas this year and we have seen it since we were there. There is nothing you can do with 110F in the pastures and no rain for the grass. Leonid I would take your word on top class training. Maybe I can show something in a few years. My trainer who is a top class retired dressage master thinks that I have the potential. Wonderfull part is that we have our own farm, we are close to famous Siesta Key and Sarasota city where according to statistics every 6th household is a millionaire. We will live we will see. Leonid I will not be able to translate the blog since I am leaving to run my advertising compaign in Teneriffe and South Africa tonight and will be back only next week by Friday. Maybe Darya or Maria can help? Well, let`s stay freinds, do not abuse the experiece and the honour of old breeders but also keep educating the youngsters like us and hopefully we can move the breed forward during this century.
Akhal Teke Golden Sand Farm

We had a really good time following each other and working on the different speeds for the gaits.
I didn`t go to train polo horses this week since I was very busy with my rela estate. I can`t wait to get back into polo once I return from the trip. My main sport is dressage but polo makes me a better rider and I can see progress in my riding much faster.
Akhal Teke Golden Sand Farm

Here is the bottom level questions I would like to receive the answers for. 1. Who is the final authority to grade the stock? 2. Who will be a final register of pure bred Akhal Tekes if there is disagreemnt with existing MAAK/VNIIK? How can we improve existing communication Russia-America? I am willing to translate if Russians would like to talk... 3. How to approve the stallions for breeding if noone will make it here our way in America in the next two years? 4. What are the specific breeding goals in Russia which can improve the breed usability in the West? We can not selll the horse of the fine ribs and narrow chests - it`s good for show but we need it for jumping, ropping, rodeo and dressage, not to talk about the eventing and endurance... 5. What are we looking in the breed? Do we want another Thorughbred or Quorter Horse? How can we combine the original type of Akhal Teke with the perseption of Western/Europian sport horse breeders? Please help me out because I am here to learn. Common Breeders, give us a slack and let me know what you think. Dasha
24.
document.write(CommentBy)
comment posted by shael10/14/2006 02:58:25 AMHomepage: http://shael-teke.ru
gravatar('EEB13FED96088E1083D4FF0CDF37626E');
What are the specific breeding goals in Russia which can improve the breed usability in the West? We can not selll the horse of the fine ribs and narrow chests - it`s good for show but we need it for jumping, ropping, rodeo and dressage, not to talk about the eventing and endurance... 5. What are we looking in the breed? Do we want another Thorughbred or Quorter Horse? How can we combine the original type of Akhal Teke with the perseption of Western/Europian sport horse breeders?
25.
document.write(CommentBy)
comment posted by Dasha Cole10/14/2006 09:33:15 AMHomepage: http://www.akhalteke.homestead.com
gravatar('EC96290343B2F6DF08324D109A559BDD');
Translation 1.General Studbook is located in VNIIK in Russia. Young stock can be registered in any national studbook which has cooperation agreement with VNIIK. 2. Same as the answer for the first question. All information about the volume of the breed has to be compiled in general Studbook. In order to improve communication regional/sub stud books has to be created to operate as parts of General Studbook. 3.This is complete nonsense. Every breeder decides to use the one or another breeding stallion in his breeding program. There is one criterion for selection - pure bred! 4.There is no such a task in existence. There is no Breeding Program in place which has to be blindly followed by Russian breeders like soldiers. Possibly it’s the dream of VNIIK but not the reality. To admit the fact I don’t quite understand how you, Dasha can make statements about fine ribbed and narrow chested horses bred by Russian breeders. It`s not a one sided approach, every breeding farm is implementing it`s own breeding program based on it`s own taste and vision. For example, average measurements of 29 broodmares of our breeding plant are 159-186.2-19,5. If you make such a conclusions, based on the horses you have seen in America – those horses were chosen and bought by Americans based on their own taste and vision. More likely, low price was the factor. Conclusions can be made only after you visit leading breeding plants in Russia and even in this case you will see the difference in style and the quality of the horses bred by different plants. 5.There is an ancient breeding principle of breeding Akhal Teke horses. This principle originated in Parfia, Massagetae and Bacteria, inherited by Turkmenians and passed to us by Shamborat. It states the following: “Would of being a pure bred horse to win the race (prize)” (Russians help with better translation, I need to go feeding!). Can`t say more. Any breeder will find in this their goal for breeding Akhal Teke horses. You can not approach the breed with estranged for breed but acceptable to you breeding goals. Nonsense. It`s necessary to support existing traditions maintained by thousands of years. On top of that every breeder is determined to create his own signature and his own style of breeding
Akhal Teke Golden Sand Farm

My and my girl friends from Moscow are taking off before Ira will finally commit to the married life. Girls week off.

Everyone on the farm is doing pretty good. Dolomit started to move in training and now is already troutting under the saddle.

Kate and Mike Bonda were helping me with the vacines this summer and we are finishing up tomorrow.

Traing system

I decided to follow up Kate`s advise and I am training everyone on the ground to what I hope to see under the saddle. I start training with simple gaits such walk, trout and canter. I teach all my horses to stand quite on the shoulder of the circle. That`s where it`s important to not let them in and I come to them when I think they deserve the pet on the shoulder.

Horses are very sensitive creatures and do respond good to touch. Punishment such as striking the chain on the lounge line is used rather to correct the gait. My whip almost never touches the horses since all of them such a greta students.

Walk - After horse stands quitely on the circle I start asking to move forward. If the horse starts out cantering or trouting I let them trout and watch until they naturally slow down and then I ask for a walk again. Woooo - Walk - Woooo is my first exercise. When horse stops on the sound release the pressure and pet on the shoulder. I come to the horse his job is to stand on the circle. Here is the picture of Riky who could not stand happily and wanted to move forward. He is such a fun little guy even though he is not an Akhal Teke.

Trout - After the horse steps happily on the circle and stops on command. I start asking for trout. In case if you have lazy horse I crack the whip in the ground and push horse forward. If it breaks to canter I wait and slowly ask for trout. Horse should go off to trout on the voice command. If it does not the correction is needed. If it does let to trout and say what a good girl/boy. Horses pick on the intonation and really can separate the greeting from swear.

Canter - I would like to my horse to go into canter from a slower trout. I don`t want my horse to either fast trout and then canter. I teach my horses from the beginning to break into the canter with the crack of the whip within a few strides if not immediately and I do not allow my horses fast trotting. They are only learning what I am teaching them. And I want them to do the same things under the saddle.

Ground manners are important and I will jerk the chain on the nose if the horse forgot how to stand quite. If horse figures out that he/she is stronger I may loose the battle.

What are we working on:

risks - Natural forward mover and loves to "crazy horse" canter on the lounge line. He could not stand quite and had shaky out of balance inconsistent trout. He would not go into the canter and will fast trout.

He picked up right off how to stand and move into nice medium walk and slow light trout. We worked today - sloe trout - whip crack - slow canter. It worked really well under the saddle. He responded to the voice command and went into the canter right off. We still have to polish the right side bit left is good.

We tried some lateral movement - backing and to the side. He is a such a quick learner.

Under the saddle we practice. Sit trout without the stirrups and small circles. Then we practice slow trout medium trout, slow canter both directions. We didn`t practice extended trout under the saddle but I pushed him on the lounge time with the command extend. Risks knows by now walk - faster - easy - extend on walk and trout. He picked up the difference with the words right off. Once he knows what I am communicating to him we will tak verbal part out and use more small signals.

Tikki

Natural lasy horse needs to pushed. Working on the lounge line with the transition walk to trout on the first signal. Canter nice and slow on both directions. Had the summer off so slowly bringing her back. Tiki has lovely temper and is working good for 4 - year old.

Now we concentrate on the consistent trout and canter. I can not ask for different speeds yet because she gets easily bored and fisty. So far so good. Some collection work was done last year and she will go collected on the trout.

Walk is horrible and we practise more forward walk and depper step. Turning is still somethines the issue but getting better.

Moira

Works with the trainer on the walk and trout. Straight lines. Forward mover likes to work but will give some trouble sometimes. Hard head... but I love her.

With me on the lounge line walk, trout canter with no resistance. Has problem going on the trout and canter to the right and I have to push her forward.

Still working on the ties, bath, picking the feet and being in general a good horse. Leads fine and has developed a lot of trust. I have to work more on the consistency of her trout and building up the back musles.

Dolomit

Will test you and your skills for sure! If I ask him he will do anything for me. First he was taking off with the lounge line but we developed love and admiration for each other. Me trhough the grain and he did trough his wonderfully character.

Dolomit is a pet which could be a Big Baby but we work on that part. Dolomit job is walk and trout on the loune line. Now he mixes up everything but is willing to please. On the saddle trainer brought up to the trout.

You have to stay on him not pushing but watching so he does not slack. He wants to be pet and babysitted all the time. Forward mover just need to knwo how to ask. Don`t have much fears left and is cold with everyone.

Nikki

Baby Nikki just getting her grounds manner. Cross ties and was stall broke. Pickes up legs and bathes. She grows fast!

Akhal Teke Golden Sand Farm

There are Akhal Tekes for sale in Texas, not one but a few to choose from... I called Natasha and she told me that other people getting ready to come so I called Kate in the middle of the evening and left a message... Kate I will be going to Texas to look at Akhal Tekes, would you like to come. Kate called right back and amazingly agreed to join. And here we are in my old Mercedes Benz convertible on the road to see Tekes.
Flight was quite good and soon we found ourselves in St.Antonio airport. I rememmber coming to St.Antonio and Houston with the group from my interpreting job CCI and I was quite happy to back to town I have once visited.
Cesar borowed the trailer and hit the road. We went to a freind and asked for a trailer and here we go...
Upon arrival we called Natasha and Tito and soon we were greeted by freindly women and her freind who came to pick us up. We were asked if want to have lunch or anything like that - no we wanted to see Akhal Tekes.
The temperature were reaching up 105F and pretty soon we realized that the bottled water is out best freind. It took us about an hour and half and here we are in Nixon, Texas.
We met with Tito and headed to look at the stallions. My heart started jumping when I saw Dolomit - pretty dark bay stallion who was flying on the air. He was shy and stood in his corner in the stall without causing any trouble. But once taken out, his eyes were lit up, body stretched out and proud king was observing us... He has kindly trouted and let us strangers come to him and touch him. I could not sleep that night, Dolomit was looking at me from his height ... proud and tall.
I was really impressed by other stallions, beatifull Murmansk, Arim ....Gigant, Grom. Striking hot Arim was shinning so bright on the sun it was hard to realize which colour he is. All stallions demonstrated beatifull gaits and listened to Tito very well.
Tito to took us in the pasture to look at the mares. It was a big drought this year so they were about 25-30 mares in the pasture. I looked at Kate and asked her - Kate, which one is ours?
Kate armed with notebook and the pen was taking fast notes. After looking and walking around in 110F for about half an hour I realized why these horses looked tired - I was tired too.
All of sudden Kate pointed at unattractive mare with some winter hair and asked Tito about her. Tito was quite surprised because it was one of the good mares brought from Russia in 1999. Moira was very freindly and just followed us everywhere like a dog. She didn`t look anything I saw on the pictures of heavinly horses and I was doubting our choice... There were a couple of pretty black mares Hiva and Akbash but they both didn`t have any training and would be hard for us to handle. Kate didn`t think much of them.
More we talked more we found out about Moira. She was the daughter of famous Osman who is no longer alive and Moira had fall or two. I could not see her colour, she looked dirty white with the spots. Moira was taken by another farm but they could not breed her she was brought back.

We came back that day exausted back to the the trailer. Frreinfly freinds of Tito`s family took us back to Seguin. I don`t rememmber anything once I hit the bed. I was tired. I think Kate was tired too. I had dreams about Dolomit looking at me over and over again... and then I woke up.
It was early morning in Seguin and me and Kate were on our way to have breakfast. Cesar called us and told us that he is about 40 minutes away from Seguin. I was glad he made it OK with the trailer through the several states. It took him 18 hours to drive from Myakka City.

When Cesar arrived he looked tired but after having a lunch we rushed back on the farm. That day we looked again at Dolomit. Before we left home Kate didn`t recomend that we should have a stallion since they are hard to handle. After spending more time with Dolomit and watching him being in the stall next to other stallions and being quite freindly the big decision was made. Dolomit will become our horse.

Mares were more difficult - it would be nice to have younger mare but most of them were unbroke so we were unsure how we were going to transport her to Florida and handle if something goes wrong.

Moira continued following us... everywhere.

Next morning we brought Kate back to St.Antonio. So now it was me and Cesar all by ourselves... with the trailer and truck getting ready to leave home with our new Akhal Tekes.
Cesar helped next day Giza and Flora to load their horses up and Tito loaded Dolomit and Moira. We went to get Cogigns done. We were quite nervoise about how 7-year old stallion will travel with Moira in three horse trailer. They did great. We unloaded Moira, had her inspected and loaded her back. That day we returned back exausted. It was time to go back home.
Next day we took some rest and stayed by the pool. No horse activity. We woke quite early next morning and started to get ready. We bought ties, canisters with water for horses and hay. We had to wait for the heat to calm down to start our route. We were determined to drive through the night not to loose our horses to the heat. Tito started loading around 6pm. He looked at Moira ... shook his head and said Good horse. Tito loaded Dolomit first, it didn`t take much he just walked in. Moira walked in the trailer second. Tito said, both are good. Tito told us: Drive as much as you... can and just go go go.
And here we were on the way from Nixon, Texas to Florida. Cesar was amazing handling trailer loaded with two horses, I was glad that we had mini trip to the vet to see how horses would act on the road. They were both standing fine.
Cesar drove straight 24 hours and we stoped only for one hour sleep in Georgia. We travelled through the night and it was adrenalin rush when we were going through Louisiana brigde over the Missisipi river. The highway was narrow with not much protection on the sides...You look at one side and you see river you look at another side and you see huge semis charging up and speeding in front of each other thorugh the night.
We got lost in New Orleans but didn`t stop there. The situation in the city didn`t look freindly. Drunk people with no shirts on the streets, strangers running around... I was afraid if we stop our horses more likely will be used for food there.
Last 6 hours were painfull, Moira started to look weak and we had to stop in Jacksonville to get some hay. She cheered up right a away after she saw a fresh flake coming her way. Dolomit at first was moving away from Cesar but by Jaksoville was coming and sniffiing Cesar`s hands. Cesar pet him all the time at each stop and pretty soon they bacame freinds. Dolomit was a happy camper and he didn`t cause any troubles on the way home. He probably knew that he needs to behave because we won`t know what to do with him otherwise.
We finally arrived at Ocala. Moira looked exausted and we put her in the paddick with fresh hay and water. Dolomit didn`t look tired. Cesar walked in the trailler and took him out. We were glad our trip was over and our horses were almost home.
Last two hours were easy since Cesar just flew through the road with Moira and we were home!
Wellcome home Moira and Dolomit!
Akhal Teke Golden Sand Farm

With our newly built barn we found out that it`s actually in a low spot. Welcome to the life on the farm! We learn something every day. We brought dirt and and then everything looked like a big mud lake... Cesar didn`t get discouraged and continued on hanging plywood and finishing stalls during the rain and lightening... How do they say it in Russian - half of the life for a good horse!
I am sure in Spanish they would come up with something different - at least Cesar did...

Highlights of the month of July was the meeting with Renee' and Jim Strikeland and riding on their ranch their polo horses. Me and Cesar went twice and had a really good time. Cesar caught the polo fever and now we are looking how he can start learning th game. Kate suggested old broom and basketball, I would add wooden horse to strike from...

We had to say Good-bye to Sophie in July. Nikki was quite upset but gladly accepted Cesar as her new Mr.Mom. We tried to put Nikki with Moira hoping that old mare will remember having foals and would cheer up to the occasion... Wrong, calm and half way scared Moira all of a sudden was charging around the pasture with that famous Akhal Teke race speed and was trying to kick that baby away. Of course baby Nikki thought it`s her new mama and with the squires was running after Moira looking all happy that finally she will have someone to be loved by. We got lucky to seperate Nikki and push her through the opening in the fence for some reason Cesar built in the corner...

Yesterday we found snake in the middle of the kitchen. It was tired and didn`t seem to move nowhere. By the time we debated to put Simba after her or not she crawled into the kitchen cabinets. We spend half of the night getting her out of there... At the end we just blocked her with the foam and issues is still unresolved.

I start understanding why Carroll used to tell us that on the farm you never get done you are always catching up...

Dolomit have received three requests for AI for the next spring and we are very proud of him. He is a very proud and beautifully Akhal Teke stud with a wonderfully temper. He has a lot of patience for all of us and we hope to be able to ride him fairly soon.
Akhal Teke Golden Sand Farm

I am just exhausted. Nikki injured herself by cutting the leg and I hope she is doing good. The vet had to stich her leg together and it was quite a bad cut. In smae time I found out that Dolomit needs to find a new trainer, my previous trainer dont` seem to have luck with him.
The one of the highlights is training Ricki and Tiki. Ricki 7-year old Morgan seem to find his rhythm with me quite OK even though I am getting used to his small sitting trout. The guys is really nice to train with. Kate taught me how to start him going slow on all gaits and he does pretty well. We were working on going around the corners and then Kate`s huband was cantering him, he is hard to put into canter so he trouts intill he fauls into it. I was glad I bought my saddle today for practise...
Miss princess (Tiki) had a really nice and easy week, I trained her randomly not focusing on her girly bucks and just working through them. She is going to be quite a hourse when I finish her. She has beautifully gaits but she needs some work pushing her forward - you can not just ride her. You have to work her, well she is beautifully and gracefully Teke and I think she knows about it.
Nothing was written about Sophie the Mom but she took such a good care of her baby during the injury. She is a good Mom.
Moira was tested for riding for the first time, she needs training further down the road. My future project.
The home of many horses noone rides perfect yet... Not yet.
Akhal Teke Golden Sand Farm

The trainer who worked with Paikhas thinks that she might be getting sour and I should give her a break or take her for a trail ride since she is only a 4 year old.
The day before yesterday Jessica and Todd were coming so I wanted my horse to at least show the left overs of training before she got all bucky-and-kicky. I took her out at 7am and rode her in the exercise ring then took her on a mini ride out of property. Then I tried to ride her out in the farm and got stuck, she would just fight with me. Then I moved her in another pasture and tried riding her and she did some... By then I was exausted more mentally than phisically.
When guests came I was determined to ride Tiki my best. Cesar was leaviing in the morning and saw me fight with her. When I started putting saddle on her later on he asked if I want to ride her again. I said Yes!
I went into the ring strong and determined and guess What? Tiki did everything I asked her to do - walk, trout and caneter and she wasn`t perfect as Kate say she was 80 out 100 but she was working. I got stuck only once and jee... what a happy ride it was. Today she had off and hanged in the pasture...
Ride or not to ride? Ride for sure.
Akhal Teke Golden Sand Farm

Belive it or not Tiki really liked it. We went around the area on the lead line with the saddle which allowed Tiki to understand one more time that I am the "lead mare". We went to check on Lamas and stopped by the cows. She got thrilled by lamas and didn`t care for cows much. Barking dogs didn`t surprise her much since she has plenty of those at the house.
Did I mention that we found our baby Niki laying in the middle of driveway, far remote from her pasture. She was sleeping flat on the pavement which of course worried her Mother Sophie. She just stood by that traveling baby with the head down. Children, trouble, nice day, plenty of hay... Who knows what Sophie was day dreaming about but she looked very happy and content even with that baby gone. Nikki is her first baby in her eleven years of being the race horse so even sportsmen learn how to handle it with the pride. Sophie I think is the best mom I have seen so far in horses. She is pushy but fair. She loves her baby which you can see confronts her personality, she has to give it up. And the baby knows... Sophie mama... I love you. She comes around and asks for that milk. Pictures to follow.
Akhal Teke Golden Sand Farm

Visiting Dolomit was quite exciting. After watching dressage horses in Tampa fairgrounds for about two hours I thought that we do have a chance. Some well trained horses lacked the balance and had some part of their body out of proportion. I thought some horses looked a little overfed. Some riders showed outstanding riding skills. There were two ladies maybe in their 70`s in pretty classical hats and they watched their Warmblood in training ring. I wonder if I can ride up to 70? That would be great.
Akhal Teke Golden Sand Farm

Today was an exciting day with Seminole Feed writer Georgia Brown coming and taking notes about our horses. It was the first interview related to horses so I was quite nervous. Thank you to my dear friend and dressage instructor Kate we were able to answer all the questions. Horses threw quite a show by galloping around the pasture and playing with wach other. Knowing them so well and I have checked back with Kate I haven`t seen girls Moira and Tiki (package) playing so well and running so beautifully. Good job girls!
Another week tomorrow and time to get ready. Real estate biz is quite busy so I should be able to practice with Tiki by 8:30 and get to work. Finally the stress of the week is over and it`s time to relax.
Akhal Teke Golden Sand Farm
